Our story
Tea is not grown in Yorkshire — we say that plainly because honesty matters more than romance. Yorkshire Tea Garden began nonetheless in a Bradford blending room where my grandmother cupped samples for a regional grocer and taught me that a good brew is judged in the mug, not the marketing. We carry that practicality forward: select leaves ethically, blend for strength without harshness, and pack in Yorkshire with people who drink tea daily as our harshest critics.
Our sourcing standards favour gardens with fair employment, environmental stewardship, and quality orthodox processing. We cup every delivery, reject batches that fail our specs, and maintain blends that behave consistently whether brewed in soft Pennine water or harder southern supplies. Breakfast blends are robust; afternoon offerings are lighter; seasonal specials explore single origins without forgetting that most customers want reliability Monday through Sunday.
Packaging reflects our values. Plastic-free where feasible means tins, paper envelopes, and compostable inner wraps rather than shiny multi-layer pouches destined for landfill. We print blending dates, store stock rotationally, and train staff to treat tea as a fresh product even when shelf life allows longer storage.
We cup alongside customers at occasional tasting mornings, publish straightforward brewing guidance on every tin, and employ local staff who argue passionately about milk first versus bag first without pretending there is only one correct kitchen. Tea should invite conversation, not lecture it.
Today Yorkshire Tea Garden supplies Maxwells with tea blended and packed in the county that made strong brews a national habit. We are custodians of a northern tradition — no fuss, no snobbery, just leaves chosen carefully and blended for the cup you actually drink at kitchen tables across Britain, morning after morning, without pretension, pointless packaging fuss, or compromise on strength in the cup you brew at home, without fail.
